About this piece

A handmade ceramic cat urn for ashes that pairs a small hand painted cat figurine with a personalized keepsake jar, a gentle and lasting home for a beloved companion. I sculpt and paint the little cat from your own photos to match their coloring, markings and pose, and finish the jar in your chosen color with any motifs, name and dates added by hand. Every detail is painted in underglaze that fuses into the clay and sealed under a fired glaze, so the color will not scratch, peel or fade, and because fired ceramic lasts for centuries this pet memorial keepsake endures as a one of a kind cremation urn.

Size and capacity

The jar is available in four sizes, with a custom size on request. Choose the size that best suits your companion; the figurine sits on top.

SizeCapacitySuitable for pets up toDimensions (L x W x H)
XS200 mL (12.2 cu in)12 lb (5.5 kg)3.1 x 3.1 x 3.3 in (8 x 8 x 8.5 cm)
S650 mL (39.7 cu in)40 lb (18 kg)4.1 x 4.1 x 4.5 in (10.5 x 10.5 x 11.5 cm)
M880 mL (53.7 cu in)54 lb (24.5 kg)5.1 x 5.1 x 5.3 in (13 x 13 x 13.5 cm)
L1800 mL (109.8 cu in)110 lb (50 kg)6.7 x 6.7 x 6.9 in (17 x 17 x 17.5 cm)

A few easy ways to picture the fit: as a rule of thumb an urn needs about 1 cubic inch of space per 1 pound of body weight, plus a little extra room. If you would rather work from the ashes themselves, volume in millilitres is roughly the weight in grams multiplied by 1.5. If your companion is near the upper limit of a size, or the ashes will stay in their bag rather than being poured in directly, it is best to size up. Send me your pet's weight if you are unsure and I will confirm the right fit.

One thing to keep in mind: the figurine itself is a fixed size, around 4 to 6 cm, and stays the same across every jar size. If you choose a larger jar the figurine will simply sit a little smaller against it. If you would like a larger figurine to match a bigger urn, please choose the Custom size option and I will scale it to suit.

Processing and shipping

Each urn is made to order and finished entirely by hand, so it takes a little time to create. Please allow around 6 weeks from your order date, plus shipping. If you would like a custom size or a fully bespoke piece, please allow 8 to 10 weeks, as these need extra sculpting and often more than one round of refinement.

Shipping is always free, anywhere in the world, and every piece is packed with great care to travel safely.

Here is how your piece comes together: once you order, I confirm the details with you, then hand craft and shape the form in clay and add any engraving before the first firing. I hand paint your companion from your photos in underglaze and send you a painted proof to approve before anything is set. After any refinements you would like, I glaze the piece and fire it again, add any gold or overglaze details, then give it a final check and package it carefully for the journey to you.

Because each piece is made slowly by hand and depends on the kiln, I take on only a small number of custom orders at a time, so it is best to order early if you need it by a certain date.

What to expect from handmade ceramic

A few honest notes, because this is handmade ceramic and I would always rather you know exactly what to expect:

  • Ceramic is unpredictable in the kiln. The exact result is never known until firing is complete, and that unpredictability is part of what makes each piece unique.
  • Color cannot be guaranteed one hundred percent. Ceramic pigments shift slightly during firing, and every screen shows color a little differently.
  • Underglaze always looks softer and lighter before firing. The kiln deepens every tone.
  • Each piece is completely handmade, so no two are ever identical. Small natural variations are part of the character.
  • My aim is a loving likeness of your companion, not a perfect photographic replica.
  • Once fired, the design and colors are permanently set and cannot be changed.
  • Engraving is permanent. Once a detail is carved it cannot be smoothed away.
  • Occasionally a piece can crack or develop a small flaw in the kiln. If that happens I remake it fully, which can extend the timeline.
  • Finely carved contour details carry a higher risk in the kiln, so there is a natural limit to how deep engraving can safely go.
  • The figurines are small, around 4 to 6 cm, so the level of fine painted detail is naturally limited at that scale.

I commissioned Tammy for 2 urns for my childhood cat and my other cat who recently passed away. She was so communicative and truly cared that whatever I was thinking about would translate through her work to honor the love I carry for these two. I sent pictures and references, discussed layouts, and she sent me drafts before firing for feedback. Tammy was so kind and understanding when I asked for slight adjustments. I would definitely recommend her work, and while working together again will be under sad circumstances, I trust her to help me with my other pets who, while hopefully are immortal, are likely not. Thank you very much, Tammy. This has been a surprisingly healing moment, to hold them close and transfer their ashes into these urns. Thank you.

I’m just blown away by how perfect Holly’s urn turned out. Holly was 18 and was with me since I was 7, so losing her was pretty devastating. Tammy was amazing to work with and so kind, her warmth was evident even through messages. She kept me updated on the process and did such a wonderful job. She even got Holly’s markings just right so it feels like she’s with me in tiny form. Thank you, Tammy!
